AD HR Services Hosts Inaugural Networking Event

July 6, 2016

“Great vision without great people is irrelevant,” says Jim Collins, author of Good to Great.

On May 11th, AD hosted the first ever AD HR Services Networking event in Philadelphia. Seventeen HR professionals from twelve AD Independent Distributor companies were in attendance. The purpose of the event was to connect HR professionals in formal Networking and to present topics relevant to help them grow their business.

HR topics discussed included:

  • Talent Reviews
  • Succession Planning
  • Evaluating the Impact and Effectiveness of your HR Function
  • Employment Branding

Neil Cohen, AD’s VP of HR and Organizational Development organized the event, “A big component of AD’s HR Services offering is to provide thought leader/best practice sharing opportunities amongst the AD HR community. While we have held many webinars with 100+ person attendance, we had not previously had an ‘in person’, dedicated event for the people responsible for HR at our member companies to formally learn from thought leaders and from each other. It was awesome to see everyone’s active engagement during our topical discussions as well as the avid networking and best practice sharing that occurred.”

Christy Schmalzer, SPHR, Director of Human Resources for Auer Steel & Heating Supply Co. shared her experience, “Meeting in-person builds trust and comradery. A lot of us have a very small team so it feels like we are adding to our HR department without expense. Who doesn’t like that?”

Chris Gornik, VP of Human Resources for Behler-Young Co., was also in attendance, “I have participated in many HR educational and networking events, but this was the first one whose participants were exclusively from HVAC/R and related distribution businesses. That made the discussion and networking much more valuable as we compared challenges and best practices. Also, the educational presentations were professional and relevant, leaving us with tools to use back on the job. This was time very well spent, and I look forward to meeting again in the future.”
