American Pipe Changes Lives with Direct Affect

November 12, 2012

AD Affiliate member American Pipe & Supply (APS) lent their support to their customers, Brasfield & Gorrie (B&G) and Hardy Corporation, during their annual charitable BBQ cookoff. This year's Cook-Off raised over $ 90,000.00, enabling The American Pipe team to present the Wounded Warrior Project with a check for $ 11,500.00.

They hosted a local wounded warrior who experienced tragedy on the battlefield when his humvee was blown apart by an IED. The explosion threw him 20 yards and the impact broke his back. Unable to move, the enemy snipers continuously hit him with bullets. His helmet was riddled with bullet holes as was his Kevlar jacket.

After much therapy, he is now mobile and was able to attend the barbecue. This is the second year APS has hosted this brave soldier, and his father commented that he broke out of his shell last year with the group at the cookout.

The American Pipe Direct Affect initiative was established in 2005 as the result of a need from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. From the beginning, their employees gave of their time and resources to help those in need. Employees at APS continue to participate each year in many local outreach programs and charity events.

Direct Affect has allowed the company’s culture of giving to take on a life of its own. American Pipe employees also invest their time and resources contributing to other local events that help those close to home including community blood drives, rescue missions, youth and children’s homes.
