Apollo Valves Sends Care Packages to the Troops

March 10, 2012

When Apollo Valves submitted their Giving Back story, they thought that it might not be posted on our blog because it might appear less important than companies donating big money to charities.

But I love this story submitted by Apollo because it shows the impact one committed individual can have, if they put their mind to Giving Back.

After all, legendary anthropologist, Margaret Mead, once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Cathy Smith, Sales Dept. at Apollo Valves, spearheaded an ongoing company donation drive to send packages of useful materials to our troops in Afghanistan.

There are currently 68,000 troops in Afghanistan, some on their second or third tour of duty.

The most recent care package included many pairs of white socks, stackable potato chips and board games.

“The comments we receive in return are an overwhelming appreciation for her efforts and the Apollo support,” shares John Welles, Apollo Valves’ Director of Sales Operations. “As Cathy has said over and over, ‘we need to show the support we have for these brave men and women by going a little bit beyond normal.’"

Well done Cathy and Apollo Valves, thank you for all you do to bring a little bit of home to the soldiers in Afghanistan.

Are there individual Giving Back champions at your company? How to do you encourage them and fuel their spirit?
